Find Your Skin's Dosha

दोष

In Ayurveda, each of us is a unique blend of the three doshas, Vāta, Pitta and Kapha, and our skin usually leans toward one or two of them. Read through the questions below and notice which answer feels most like you, most of the time, not just today. Keep track of your As, Bs and Cs.

1. How does your skin feel by midday?

  • A. Fine, barely visible
  • B. Visible mostly through the center of the face
  • C. Larger, and quick to congest

3. What does your skin do in the sun?

  • A. Dries out and can look dull or flaky afterward
  • B. Flushes or burns easily
  • C. Tans slowly and rarely burns

4. How would you describe its texture?

  • A. Thin and delicate, cool to the touch

5. When your skin is out of balance, what shows up?

  • A. Flaking, dullness, fine lines
  • B. Redness, heat, irritation, inflamed spots

Your skin's nature

Mostly A: Vāta, dry and delicate. Air and ether. Your skin asks for warmth, oil and moisture. Explore Vāta potions

Mostly B: Pitta, sensitive and warm. Fire and water. Your skin asks for cooling, calming and soothing. Explore Pitta potions

Mostly C: Kapha, oily and congested. Earth and water. Your skin asks for clearing, lightness and gentle stimulation. Explore Kapha potions

A blend of two? Most of us are. Begin with the dosha that is speaking loudest right now, and remember that the seasons shift us too: many of us lean Vāta in the cold months and Pitta in summer. Some potions are tridoshic and welcome in every season.
