Jojoba isn't truly an oil but a liquid wax, the only plant known to make one in quantity. Her long-chain wax esters closely resemble those in our own sebum, where wax esters make up about a quarter, so she sinks in easily without leaving a greasy film. As the carrier, she dilutes the potent essential oils so they can be worn gently on the skin, and because she is nearly scentless, their aroma comes through true. Her wax esters are also remarkably stable, resisting rancidity far longer than most plant oils, which keeps the blend fresh.
Elemi is a resin from the Philippine Canarium tree and a cousin of frankincense. She carries limonene, alpha-phellandrene and elemicin, which give her a fresh, lemony, peppery brightness. She's both grounding and uplifting, a beautiful resin for meditation.
Black spruce absolute is rich in bornyl acetate, the soft, balsamic heart of the northern forest. She deepens the breath and steadies a scattered mind.
Palo santo, "holy wood," is the sacred tree of South America's dry coastal forests. Her wood is traditionally burned to clear and bless a space. She is rich in limonene and alpha-terpineol, sweet, woody and quietly uplifting. Ours is distilled from naturally fallen wood, so no living tree is cut.
Vetiver, the "oil of tranquility," comes from deep, earth-gripping roots. Her khusimol and vetiverols give her a smoky, rooted scent that draws energy down into the body.
Cardamom CO2, clove and nutmeg are the warm spice heart of the blend. Cardamom's cineole clears and uplifts, clove's eugenol grounds and warms, and nutmeg's sabinene and myristicin soothe and settle.
Litsea cubeba, "may chang," is rich in citral and gives the blend its bright touch of citrus.
Black obsidian is volcanic glass born where fire meets earth. She is a powerful protective stone that grounds us, shields against heavy energies, and connects the base chakra to the heart of the earth.
